This sunshade was made of discarded plywood and reinforcing steel, found on lots in the city that were undeveloped at the time. The plants depicted were all found in these places.
Since the sun was uncommonly hot that summer, it was appropriate to draw by bundling the rays of the sun with a magnifying glass, making burning marks in the wood's surface.
It seemed logical that the drawings should form a parasol. |
